Dell Abelein Scholarship Endowment
The Dell Abelein Endowment was established through a generous legacy gift to the Shelton Kiwanis Foundation in 2010. Today, the endowment funds three scholarships annually to Shelton High School graduating seniors who plan to pursue a career in education.
Abelein himself received a degree in Education from Western Washington University and taught seventh and eighth grades at Shelton Junior High for nearly thirty years. Even in his retirement, he continued to dedicate himself to learning, volunteering numerous hours as a reading and math tutor.
Abelein was a lifetime member of Kiwanis where he served as secretary of the club. He was also actively involved at the Shelton United Methodist Church where he was head usher for 25 years and participated in Bible Study, prayer chain and the church's food bank. An incredible man, Abelein still found time to spend 35 summers working at the Canyon Valley Store and Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.
Dell Abelein passed away in November of 2010 after a full life of service to his community.
